Lives & works in Amsterdam, NL
My work is a recreation-ground which is stimulated by experimenting, often in order to push boundaries. The pressure of unwritten rules of the majority, norms and values imposed on us by certain contemporary rules of society. One of my biggest goals in my work is to blur boundaries within arts, which I have tried to achieve throughout my career by collaborating with other artist. I believe that there is an equal creative process for different art forms, such as visual and musical, although many are valued differently. How these artforms not just influence each other but also can shape each other. Often, one artform supports the other but a real dialogue between them is missing. I expect from my audience that they are first confused, but when they look through the happy colours and the weird lines, mediums and forms namely: paintings, drawing and sounds, they will see the melancholy. I want to comfort my audience with the childish colours, texture and sounds, but also confront them with the problems this society has, to deal with translated in privileges and antonym of privileges. If you look at the forms in my paintings you will see dark emotions while I am using happy colours. The different elements on the paintings are imperfect, the lines are not smooth and the forms are not what they seem to be. They represent the breaking of the rules of everyday life. When you pay attention to the lines you’ll see that they move in a youthful way. The colours that are used don’t represent any side of society they speak for equality in an immature way. In my work I preffer to use different mediums, such as: latex, felch, charcoal, oil paint, oil pastel, zippers, silk and gesso. These different elements are used to create more dept and to blur patriarchy.
